If you are ever visiting St Mawes
before you return find some time to pause.
The King Harry Ferry’s hard to resist,
and Trelissick Gardens should not be missed.
There’s stunning views over the estuary,
gardens full of botanical beauty,
with fairytale towers, shady bowers
and ancient trees surrounded by flowers.
I said to my friend “By eck these are tall,
they wouldn’t fit in my garden so small.
I wondered how to remember their name?”
She said “Remember each time…..say the same.”
Perhaps you may wonder what she did mean,
but I’ve never forgotten when I’ve seen
these triffids again – the name it does come,
each time I say “By ‘eck………….. it’s an Echium!”
